MRI can provide you with a detailed, 3-dimensional image of the inside of your body using magnets and radio waves. Your doctor might order an MRI exam to check for brain injuries, joint issues, spinal issues, soft tissue injuries, or issues with your internal organs.

A CT scan takes multiple X-ray images of your body at different angles to look at your soft tissues, blood vessels, organs, and bones. You may need a CT scan for many reasons, including to identify internal bleeding, detect conditions like cancer, or find blood clots, tumors, or infections.

An ultrasound uses sound waves to create an image of your organs, tissues, and other structures inside your body. While many people are familiar with pregnancy ultrasounds, you can also get an ultrasound to diagnose or assess many conditions, including gallbladder disease, thyroid issues, joint inflammation, and blood flow issues.

An x-ray exam creates an image of the inside of your body using radiation. X-ray exams are especially useful for finding bone fractures or infections, and can also be used to identify other health conditions, such as a lung infection, enlarged heart, or digestive tract problems.
